Hostility to Vatican II runs deep with
Pope Francis' critics A commentary by Michael Sean
Winters: A little more than a year ago, I did a three-part series
examining the opposition to Pope Francis. In the first of those
essays, I argued that the opposition to Francis was rooted in a
misconception about the reception of Vatican II and, indeed,
about the Second Vatican Council itself. I stand by that
assessment, but it is increasingly clear that the opposition to
Francis comes not only from misconceptions about Vatican II but
actual hostility to the council and to all the popes since. In
short, the situation is even worse than I had suspected. Læs mere - [New Catholic

07-01-2018 - Al Sisi: Den kopitiske kirke en
uundværlig del af Ægypten
, "No one can divide us". Al Sisi's embrace
to the Copts Al Sisi's intervention at the Coptic
Christmas liturgy, broadcasted live on national TV, wanted to
show his country and the world, the strong bond that, in this
historical moment strengthens the largest Christian community in
the Middle East and the current strong man of Egypt. Al Sisi is
the first Egyptian President to have physically taken part in the
liturgical solemnity of the Copts, and yesterday he did so for
the fourth time. His political project defines the Coptic
component as an essential and non-excludable element of the
Egyptian identity. In July 2016, he announced that he wanted to
increase penalties for those fomenting sectarian riots and
violence. On 30 August 2016, the Egyptian Parliament voted the
new law on the construction of churches, eliminating bureaucratic
limits and obstacles that for decades had heavily conditioned the
ordinary life of Egyptian Christian communities Læs

it is our turn, and not just in one place in the world but many.
Will the outcomes be any different this time? Do we have the
resources available to be more successful in our time than in the

to suggest that the interfaith movements across the globe could

perfectly positioned to explain this era of American
Christianity. It presents research that has massive implications
for how we think about the future of Christianity and the future

examines the numerical decline and waning cultural influence of
white Christians in the U.S. He explores the anxieties of white

shifting national landscape. The book has proven to be powerfully

Don't Bet On The Emergence Of A 'Religious

off a spurt of activism around issues such as immigration and

It's doubtful, however, that a revitalized "religious left" will

reason for skepticism is that there are far fewer religious
liberals today than there were a generation ago. Nearly four in

a fairly consistent religious ideology. While he was raised and

aspects of Christianity with a profoundly dualistic worldview,

Protestant and Orthodox
churches announce campaign to welcome refugees Refuting
Donald Trump's decisions on banning migrants, a network of
Protestant and Orthodox churches are mobilizing their
congregations to provide support and shelter to refugees. The
church leaders have called on their congregants to stand against
President Trump's orders on banning refugees and building a wall
across the U.S.-Mexican border and to lobby the president and the
congress members who implement such plans. Although the white
Christian evangelicals were key in bringing Trump to power, their
fellow Christians, the Orthodox and the Protestant Christians,
don't seem to share their views on immigration. Leaders of both
churches have denounced the plans as being "unjust and immoral"
and insisted these rules go against the fundamental values on
which the U.S. was founded. The leaders argue the U.S. is based
on a culture of accepting people and strangers, and the current
talks of banning certain groups of people goes against what the
nation stands for. Læs mere - [WorldWide Religious News

Jesse Kamstra, country representative of The Lutheran

Sudanese refugees into Northern Uganda, at peak times up to 6,000
people a day. "The numbers are overwhelming. It is a challenge

Religionskonflikt
, RUSSIA: Jehovah's Witnesses to be
liquidated? Russia's General Prosecutor's Office appears
to be moving to liquidate the Jehovah's Witness headquarters body
as "extremist". It appears to believe that it already has enough
evidence to seek its liquidation because courts have in the past
year liquidated local branches and punished individual community
members. The assertion comes in a 27 January order shown to
Jehovah's Witnesses but which they were not allowed to copy. Læs mere - [Forum 18]
Should the Administrative Centre in St Petersburg be forcibly
liquidated, it appears highly likely that all 406 registered
local organisations and more than 2,500 unregistered religious
groups would also be liquidated. This would end Jehovah's

, How Russia became the leader of the global
Christian right It's no coincidence that Buchanan's
column, which outlined the players within the "cultural, social,
moral war" between Russia and the "hedonistic" West, mentioned
a semi-obscure group called the World Congress of Families. As
Buchanan wrote, the WCF listed Russia's emergence as a
"Pro-Family Leader" as one of the "10 best trends" of 2013.
Indeed, in order to outline how Russia challenged - and
supplanted - the U.S. role as a clarion for Christian
fundamentalists, you have to parse the WCF's role, and the
group's attendant impact on Russian policy over the past few
years. Læs

Walter Williams of Rienzi, Mississippi, received a letter from
the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation that
exclaimed that the town of Rienzi was violating the Establishment

town's Veterans Memorial Garden and called for the government to

warns that other towns have had to pay hefty sums for trying to
fight legal battles to defend the right to display Christian

highlights the case of King, North Carolina, which in 2015 had
to pay $500,000 in legal fees after it was sued for having a
